Year 13 - Local Conflict

Part of the Conflict unit requires us to look at an example of a local conflict. You'll be aware from the fluorescent green/yellow signs if nothing else, that there are proposals to build new houses on several sites in the Amber Valley area, including two sites in Swanwick - one of which is on the green belt land behind the houses on Derby Road and above Butterley Reservoir. It would be well worth keeping an eye on how things develop, including talking to people, getting hold of copies of any consultation documents, and checking out various websites including Amber Valley Borough Council, the Ripley Gateway site, and Support our Struggle - a page set up on Facebook to campaign against the proposed housing developments in the area.

Park Hill Flats

Just been looking for the Urban Splash brochure for Park Hill Flats that I mentioned today, but unfortunately (unless I am looking in the wrong place) it seems to have been taken off their website. However...

There's an interesting post from Alan's blog here, some superb photos and video clips about life at Park Hill from the BBC's South Yorkshire site and Sheffield City Council has a site with plenty of information about the plans to "achieve a mixed tenure, mixed use, transformation of Park Hill as a fashionable city centre address"... A fair bit of work to do before that happens, methinks!!
